At this point, you should know how it’s going to go. After a long and peaceful summer, every family careens into the school year. Suddenly, it’s early mornings. Suddenly, it’s the scramble to make lunches. Suddenly, someone has brought home a bug and now the whole family is sick.
Sports follow. Traffic follows. Homework, extracurriculars, birthday parties follow.
Into the flood again
The same old trip it was back then…
It has ever been thus. There’s no sense in fighting it. No sense in hoping it will be otherwise. Just buckle up. But you know what else you can do? You can enjoy it. Because the chaos is wonderful.
Time in the car together. Drawings that come home from class. Little surprises tucked into lunchboxes. Another notch in the doorframe—how are they growing this fast? They want to tell you about what they’re learning. They have new friends and interests. This doesn’t last forever.
It’s going to be a ride. It’s going to be crazy. But it feels good to be back in it.
