We all want our kids to love learning. We want them to stay curious. We want them to ask questions. We want them to find things they’re interested in. So we encourage them. We help them cultivate their interests.
But how do we help them become lifelong learners?
Well, it starts with being one yourself.
You’re here because you yourself are eager to learn more every day about parenting and raising great kids. You yourself are modeling lifelong learning and curiosity for them in ways you might not even realize. But how often are they seeing you ‘take up your tablets and going to school’ as Marcus Aurelius famously did as an old man?
That’s one of the stories we talk about in Wisdom Takes Work. That learning has to be something we are always doing—we have to stay a student, no matter how smart, how successful, how powerful or how old we are. Especially if we want our kids to be good students today.
Show them—ostentatiously so, even—that you are still a student. Show them the books you’re reading. Drag them along to lectures. Start new hobbies and activities. Take a night class…or go back for another degree. Talk about your mentors. Sign up for challenges and courses.
Encourage your kids, yes, but mostly be that lifelong learner. For you and for them.

Build a life filled with wisdom and understanding. Model true curiosity for your children. Wisdom Takes Work can provide the blueprint.
