Just Give Them A Little More Time

You ever met an adult who can’t tie their shoes? No, of course you haven’t. Because eventually, they figured it out. Everybody figures out how to walk and talk and read.

Does it take some of us longer than others? Of course it does. Some kids are dyslexic. Some kids refuse to eat anything but grilled cheese. Sometimes it takes until they’re a twenty-something…or a thirty-something…until they figure out what they want to do with their life.

But they do figure it out. Pretty much everybody figures it out.

So let’s try to relax a little bit, ok? Let’s try to give our kids some space, some patience, some support. Every person has their own timetable. Everyone is on their own journey.

We don’t control which one our kids is on…but we do control whether we give them a complex about it. Whether we fight them more than we need to. Whether we make them feel rushed. Whether we make them feel stupid. Whether we support them or not.
