Make the Most of This

Spring breathes freshness and renewal into our world with warmer air, sun-filled days, and bursts of new foliage and colors.

And after a long winter, we can’t wait to rush outside and enjoy it all.

But in our eagerness, in all those spring activities—from baseball games to camping trips—we may miss the gentle reminder inherent in the changing seasons. Just as the flowers bloom and trees grow, our children are growing, too. As each season passes, so does time, marching us closer to the day our kids will go out on their own and leave home.

Meditating on this isn’t meant to cast a shadow over the joy and lightness of spring; rather, it’s nature’s way of asking us to reflect.

Are we making the most of our precious time with them? What do we have to show for the season that just passed? Are we wasting time we could be spending with our family on things that drain us? Maybe we fell into a rut this winter—but that’s also the beauty of the spring, right? That we can, as the Philip Larkin poem goes, “begin afresh, afresh, afresh.”

If you want to make the most of this special season of life with your children, we invite you to join us over at Daily Stoic for our annual Spring Forward Challenge.
