Look, it would be easier to just stay home. It would be cheaper not to do it. They probably won’t even notice (and almost certainly won’t fully appreciate it). It may well save you a meltdown or a disastrous afternoon.
But, as we’ve said before, now is the time. Now is the time.
Later, you won’t be able to go to these museums or these concerts or their favorite park or get this many uninterrupted days together. Later, you won’t have this kind of decision-making power. Later, they won’t be so open to doing things with you.
This is their childhood. This is when you have a young family.
Now is the time to do this stuff. Now is the time to take the trip. Now is the time to make the plans. Now is the time to be busy. Now is the time to have the experiences. Now is the time to say yes. Even though it’s crazy. Even though you’re tired. Even though it might—and again, they often do—end in a disaster.
You won’t remember the downside risk. You won’t remember the bad times. You’ll remember the stuff you did together. And so will they.

P.S. You scroll your phone at night, in the morning, when you eat, when you’re bored, when you’re in the bathroom, when you’re waiting in the school pickup line. We all do.
But instead of social media, your email, or the news, have you ever scrolled your photos and videos of your kids? Have you noticed that something that felt so recent was a whole year ago, three whole years ago? That in the five years you’ve been at your current job, doing mostly the same thing every day, they’ve gone through more milestones, more shoe sizes, more obsessions, more changes than you even realize?
It’s true that time flies. You see them every day, so you don’t always notice, but they are changing all the time—growing, developing, learning.
Do not take this time for granted.
We created the Daily Dad Tempus Fugit Medallion for the moment your mind drifts to the next thing while they’re right there beside you. It’s a physical reminder that “time flies.” Hundreds of dads have already added this to their daily practice.
They’re growing up before your eyes. Make sure you see it.
