There’s so much to do. There’s so much going on. In the world. At work. With your health. With your relationships, with your parents, with your kids. What do you prioritize? What problems do you solve first? What are you supposed to be focused on?
In a recent interview—which we’ve talked about a couple times—the comedian Bob Odenkirk said of being a dad:
I knew what I was doing when I had kids growing up. I was being a dad…I understood my purpose. That was my job and I didn’t have to ask myself, ‘What am I doing here? What do I do? And how can I be a part of this world? How can I be meaningful today?’
Raising your kids to be good people, good adults, is the most important job you have.
Be present with your kids, give them your love and focus, and nurture their curiosity. All that stuff on your phone? In your inbox? It’s not important right now. Your time with your kids is—and it’s limited. Be there for them, enjoy it, and be an example of what it is to be a good adult. It’s how you get to be meaningful and have a positive impact on the world, everyday.
